Postpartum Medicaid

Georgia Has Extended Postpartum Medicaid

GEORGIA MEDICAID OFFERS SERVICES TO SUPPORT YOUR MENTAL, EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH FOR 12 MONTHS AFTER PREGNANCY
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME?
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME?
If you have Medicaid coverage during your pregnancy, you will now have coverage for a full 12 months after a pregnancy ends.
  • You DO NOT need to do ANYTHING to get this extended coverage; there is no redetermination of eligibility for this process.
Pregnancy can uncover health conditions or make some health conditions worse.
  • This extended coverage gives you the opportunity to recover from the pregnancy and support your overall health.
    • The weeks following birth are a critical period for you and your infant, setting the stage for long-term health and well-being. Postpartum care is an ongoing process, that can be tailored to your individual needs.
The extended coverage means that you can access health care such as:
  • Wellness exams
  • Cervical cancer screening
  • Birth control, including permanent contraception like tubal surgery
  • Preventive health counseling (weight management, smoking cessation, nutrition, etc.)
  • Lactation support and supplies
  • Blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol screening and management
  • Support for mental health and substance use concerns
  • Specialty care (cardiology, surgery, endocrinology, hematology, dermatology, etc.)
  • Prescription medicines
  • Inpatient and outpatient hospital services
Some Medicaid insurance providers in Georgia also offer additional supports, like transportation, and other services. These vary by Medicaid insurance provider
